Historical Context

A festival in interregnum

The 2026 edition was the first Ojúde Ọba held in honour of the late Awujale Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, who passed on 13 July 2025 after a 65-year reign - the longest in modern Ijebu history. Proceedings were led by Chief Sonny Folorunsho Kuku OFR, Ogbeni Oja of Ijebuland and head of the Awujale Interregnum Administrative Council (AIAC).

The tribute theme - "Celebrating the Legacy of Oba Sikiru Adetona" - concentrated global attention with unprecedented emotional resonance, driving the largest diaspora return and most extensive international press coverage in the festival's recorded history.
